An affiliate program is a great way to get sales that you probably wouldn't get otherwise. It extends your reach into the community that you are trying to serve.

Essentially, you get other websites, blogs, etc. to get their visitors to purchase your products or services. Normally, you only pay them when there's a sale. Depending on the product or service the commission is between 5% and 60%. 

I've even seen commissions of 100% where the person with the affiliate program was just trying to build a mailing list for future sales.

You can literally have hundreds or thousands of other websites helping you sell your products... for a price.
