Using the Internet As a Marketing Tool
If you have a business of any kind, then you should be using the internet as a marketing tool. It’s a plain and simple fact: businesses that use the internet have the potential for a much larger customer base, and those businesses can keep in better contact with their customers.
So how do you use the internet as a marketing tool?
First and foremost, if you own a business then you need a website. Many of today’s consumers are computer savvy, and they look to the internet to research products and stores and seek answers to their questions. Businesses that use the internet as a marketing tool have this figured out.
Think about it. How many times have you gone to a company’s website even just to look up their phone number? The fact is that a high number of people are plugged into the web both at home and at the office, and these people are drawn to the businesses that have websites and use the internet as a marketing tool. Another aspect of having an online presence with a website is that customers can look you up 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Ok, so now you know why you need a website. It’s also important to know there are additional ways to use the internet as a marketing tool.
Along with websites, email is a very useful means of marketing on the internet. I’m not talking about those annoying spammed messages that clutter your inbox. Email is best used for marketing your business when a customer has willingly given you their email address. This can be achieved via your website by encouraging your site visitors to fill out a form with their email address.
One way to persuade customers to input their email address is by offering monthly newsletters to those who subscribe. People may not sign up for your email list if they think they will only receive advertisements from you. They need to know that you will also send information they find interesting and useful. Issuing online promotions through email is one useful way to use the internet as a marketing tool, and the possibility of a good deal may also encourage customers to participate in your list.
It may sound like quite a task to keep up with the customers who do sign up for your mailing list, especially if you promise to provide them with regular updates and newsletters. The good news is that this really isn’t hard to follow through on. There are many services and programs that will manage your email list for you. They will also send out auto-responder messages at regular set intervals. This means you could write twelve monthly newsletters up front and set them up to be sent out once a month to everyone on your email list.
Using the internet as a marketing tool should be a fun task, not a difficult one. And once you see the results you get from marketing on the internet, you will agree that the time and effort you spend is well worth the trouble.
